You Make It Reel

Oh yea, I forgot to include a video that I participated last time. Or did I ? I don't think so right? Actually before CNY there was a video making competition organised by NOKIA and the contestants were required to record a video based on their given song by using only camera phone. I don't own one so I borrow from my friends and we made the video together. It was a very fun experience and very thanks to them for helping out!! Especially during those times near quizzes and holidays !! hahaha ..

It's been months, I just figured out that I can share it with all of you !! By the way I didn't win anything. Yea, it's sad 2 months ago..

haha .. this is the commentary for the music video la.. make sure you only read this after you watch it...

The song given is "YOU MAKE IT REEL" by Nokia. This music video was made as an entry for Nokia N95 launching competition. I still remember that I saw the competition advertisement in Friendster during midnight and out of sudden I had the strong urge to participate in it. The next day I voiced it out to my friends and suprisingly they had agreed. So I continued...

Basically this video took one week for the whole process. I took 3 days to plan the storyboard and let my friends review it over and over again. I knew this is a fast pace song and hence the first thing I thought of was a guy running for something. It represented adrenaline urges that suited the song. And the whole story emerged when I had my female characters joining in as actresses.. Haha.. so it must ba a love story... The main actor you saw is my close friend in NTU, he's my coursemate and he actually forgets a lot of things. So I straight away input his personality in the video where he forgot an important Valentine's date...

Then I knew to make it BIG and LOUD i would need MANY PEOPLE to help out in a massive shooting. This was very hard because..

1. Gosh everyone is busy with their studies and who the hell are you calling all people to work for you for free ??

2. I'm a small potato here... no power at all...

So ngam ngam the weekend the Malaysian Student Association was going to have a CNY Celebration. I knew it was my chance and so I did a massive marketing strategy before that day.. Haha.. REALLY!! I posted my event on MSA forum before that and SPAMMING other's email. Plus I said that free gift will be given out (fluorescence sticks).. Haha.. I went out for shopping for my shooting materials some more days before the shooting begins. It was really a ONE-MAN SHOW at the beginning.

Then after discussed with the actor/actresses. We came out with a 2-day shooting schedule. Yes, all these were shot in 2 days. The first day where my friend was running all around in the campus that morning. Kesian him... hahaha... We took a lot of shots for that morning until afternoon together with my 2 super star actresses.. haha.. we had a lot of fun and together we shot a very nice experience!! haha.. It took roughly 3 hours for the whole running session...

Then, DENG DENG DENG DENG ... That evening i was so scared that no one will stay behind after CNY celebration... Hahaha... luckily many of my seniors and friends cooperated and stayed behind for the shooting. They were all so kind!! Love them !! haha.. We took those NIGHT PARTY SCENES for roughly 40 minutes and the main characters proceeded to the next shooting. It was around midnight already. Then we shot the last few scenes in a cafe in our campus... There we shot the scenes where the guy met the girl in the cafe... ... What a romantic and sexy scene. The girl, Cindy, is one of the 'gang' I usually hang out together lah ... haha... She did a perfect job there and happily we finished everything early.

Then it was my RAP PART. The rap part was actually not included in my original script. I thought of that but we never execute it. It was until my post-production process that I found that the scenes were a little 'boring' during the rap part because running or party scenes were not suitable for the rap part. So I did it in my room with the light off. Honestly I hope I could do better with the lightning but that is the best i can do... ... anyway..It's ok la.. kinda funny... haha... I took times to actually get the rapping words from the song before I proceed to the shooting to match my mouth... hahaha...

The whole process took exactly 1 week. I didn't know the results and obviously I was not one of the winner but I am glad that I did it. Now I knew it's not so simple to direct and make a music video!!

Leave your comment and evaluation! Thanks!!
